Volleyball National Championship

Mark Selders
It was a battle in Seattle between two Big Ten teams: Wisconsin Badgers and Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday in the Volleyball National Championship game Saturday.

It was a great back-and-forth battle between these two teams. I was really hoping that Wisconsin would have won Set 4 to take it to five sets. I really didn't want this great game to end.

Penn State defeated Wisconsin 25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23 to win their sixth national championship. The Nittany Lions are now tied with Stanford for the most women's volleyball national championships.

Penn State seniors Ariel Scott, Katie Slay, Deja McClendon, Maddie Martin and Maggie Harding won a national title as freshman and they capped off their senior season with another.

Wisconsin should have another great season next year. As the Badgers will only lose starter Annemarie Hickey and Julie Mikaelsen to graduation. The current freshman setter Lauren Carlini will only get better in the off season and should be a great leader for the team. Can't wait to see these two teams face each other next season.
