Super Bowl XLIX

Associated Press/David J. Phillip
The New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 Sunday in the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

I watched about five minutes of the Super Bowl. I needed to go to bed early because I had to work at 4 am Monday morning. I was happy to see that New England won the game. I'm not a big fan of New England, but I do like Tom Brady. Brady did go to Michigan. As for Seattle, I'm not a fan of theirs. Never have been. Probably never will.

Pleased that Brady has won four Super Bowl titles and was named MVP for a third time. #GoBlue

To reach the Super Bowl, Seattle overcame a 19-7 deficit against Green Bay Packets to tie the game at 22 in the fourth quarter. The game went to overtime. Seattle won the coin toss and drove down the field to score the winning touchdown. Seattle defeated Green Bay 28-22.

Super Bowl XLIX will be played on Sunday, February 1 at 6:30 pm ET on NBC. Unfortunately for me, I can only watch the first half hour of the game. I will be going to bed at 7 pm because I have to work the next morning at 4 am. I don't even remember the last time I watched an entire Super Bowl. Oh well. I can always watch SportsCenter for highlights of the game.

National Championship

USA Today/Matthew Emmons
The first ever College Football National Championship game took place Monday in Arlington, Texas. The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Oregon Ducks 42-20.

It seems like everyone was happy with the playoff. Now that the playoff went well with four teams, it seems like the playoff could be expanded to six or eight teams. The playoff games were exciting. Division II and III have a playoff, why can't Division I do the same?

Coach Harbaugh

Jim Harbaugh was announced as University of Michigan head football coach on December 30, 2014.

Harbaugh was recently the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. He lead the team to back-to-back NFL West Division titles and a spot in the 2012 Super Bowl. Harbaugh's record with the 49ers was 44-19-1. Before coaching the 49ers, Harbaugh was the coach for Stanford University Cardinal. At Stanford, his record was 29-21. Stanford won the Orange Bowl in 2011 defeating Virginia Tech 40-12.

Harbaugh played in 177 NFL games. He was drafted to Chicago Bears in the first round in the 1987 NFL draft. After Chicago, he also played for the Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers. Harbaugh threw for 26,288 yards and 129 touchdowns in his career that ended in 2001.

As a quarterback at the University of Michigan, 1983-1986, he lead the Wolverines to a Rose Bowl in 1987, where they were defeated by Arizona State 22-15,  and was third in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Harbaugh has had success everywhere he has coached. Hoping that the 2015 Michigan football season will be better then 2014.

Sometimes you have to go back

The big rumor around here and the entire United States is that Michigan is trying to get Jim Harbaugh to be the next head coach of the maize and blue. That would be great if Harbaugh came back to Michigan, but we will have to wait and see.

Until then, watch this amazing video.

The fall sports season for the University of Michigan started on Friday. The women's cross country team participated in the Michigan Open at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter.

Michigan's Shannon Osika won the race by inches over teammate Erin Finn. Osika and Finn both finished with the time of 17:01.5. Brook Handler was third in 17:35.8. Taylor Pogue was fourth (17:45.4) and Anna Pasternak rounded out the top five in 17:51.9.

According to mgoblue.com: "Finn, Osika, Handler and Pogue led the group from the gun and helped pace a group of Wolverines that remained tightly knit through the first mile. Over the second mile, Finn and Osika spread things out and with about 500 meters to go, the two were deadlocked. Both finished strong over the final stretch, with Oiska earning the win by the slimmest of margins."

Losses

mgoblue.com
This past weekend was not a good weekend in sports for the teams I like. They all lost.

It all started Saturday when the Michigan Wolverines women's basketball team lost to Minnesota Golden Gophers 85-69. Michigan held the lead at halftime, 38-34, but couldn't hold on to the lead. Two Minnesota players, Amanda Zahui and Rachel Banham lead all scorers with 24 points. Siera Thompson was Michigan's leading scorer with 19. Michigan falls to 14-8, 5-4 Big Ten and Minnesota is 14-9, 3-6 Big Ten.

No. 17 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team lost a close game in OT to No. 2 Syracuse Orange Saturday night. Syracuse topped Duke 91-89 in OT. Duke's Jabari Parker and Amile Jeffereson fouled out of the game in the last two minutes of regulation. Rasheed Sulaimon of Duke tied the game at 78 when he made a 3-point basketball before the buzzer to send the game into overtime. The Blue Devils lead in OT 87-84, but the Orange were able to rally to the win. Syracuse's C.J. Fair lead his team with 28 points and Rasheed Sulaimon was Duke's leading scorer with 16 points. Duke's record is now 17-5, 6-3 ACC and Syracuse is perfect at 21-0; 8-0 ACC.

No. 10 ranked Michigan Wolverines men's basketball team was defeated by Indian Hoosiers 63-52 Sunday. Michigan was undefeated in Big Ten play. Michigan trailed 25-22 at halftime. In the second half, but Michigan tied the game at 29. Indiana then went on a 11-4 scoring run and Michigan couldn't catch up. Indiana's Kevin Ferrell lead all scorers with 27 points. Derrick Walton, Jr. was Michigan's scoring leader with 13 points. Michigan's record is now 16-5, 8-1 Big Ten and Indiana is 14-8, 4-5 Big Ten.

USA TODAY/Matthew Emmons
No. 3 Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sunday 88-67. Duke lost its first home ACC game since 2008.  They previously won 42 ACC games at home. Kayla McBride lead Notre Dame with 23 points. Duke's Tricia Liston also scored 23 points. The Irish held the Blue Devils to a season low 39% shooting. After the win, Notre Dame is in now alone in first place of the ACC. Duke is now 21-2, 8-1 ACC and Notre Dame is 21-0, 8-0 ACC.

The final loss of the weekend was Denver Broncos losing to Seattle Seahawks 43-8 in the Super Bowl. The game started out so horrible for Denver. The Broncos center snapped the ball over Peyton Manning's head and went into the endzone for a safety. For the quarter or two that I watched, Denver couldn't do anything at all. Seattle's defense was really good. The top performers for the game; Passing: Peyton Manning (DEN): 280 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT; Rushing: Percy Havin (SEA): 2 carries, 45 yards and Receiving: Demaryius Thomas (DEN): 13 receeptions, 118 yards, 1 TD.

The final two

The final two football teams standing are the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. They will face each other in the Super Bowl on February 2 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

To reach the Super Bowl, Denver Broncos defeated the New England Patriots 26-16 in the AFC Championship and the Seattle Seahawks beat San Francisco 49ers 23-17 in the NFC Championship on Sunday.

USA Today/Kyle Terada
Now that the teams are set, I want Denver to win the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning has returned from neck surgery and has had the best season of his career. Manning is a classy player and person. Manning is 37 and is
playing his 16th season in the NFL. He won't be in the league that much longer. Peyton could go out on top with a Super Bowl victory. I say that would be a perfect way to close out a wonderful career, if he plans to retire.

NFL playoffs

Associated Press/Jack Dempsey
This past weekend in the National Football League, four games were played. The teams that won will play in the American Football Conference and National Football Conference championship this coming Sunday. The first game of the day will be the New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos at 3 p.m. EST on CBS and San Francisco 49ers play Seattle Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. EST on FOX.

nfl.com
Who I would love to see play each other in the Super Bowl on February 2 is Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks. The reason I like Denver is because of Peyton Manning. He is a tremendous quarterback and I have liked him since he started playing for the Indianapolis Colts. The reason I like Seattle is bit superficial. I love their team colors. Who doesn't love bright green, blue and silver? I do wish that Seattle would alter their logo. The Seahawk could look cooler. The logo has changed just three times since the 1970s. This alternate logo is pretty neat. They should use it. Look at the mean face and claws of the swooping seahawk. It's just awesome.
