Random things

I had plans to finish the book The Kennedy Men; 1901-1963 by Laurence Leamer last week. That didn't happen. Instead of reading like I should have been, I was running and watching Weeds. I recently got into the show and have been playing catch up with it thanks to Netflix. I have watched the DVDs back to back. Once they arrive in the mail, I have been watching them in one sitting. Usually there are five episodes on a DVD. I admit I have been sitting on my couch watching over two hours at a time. Its the summer. I'm allowed. I'm really glad that the episodes are a half hour long. If not, that would be a lot of television. I have the final two DVDs of Season 4 left. Once I see those, I can watch the current season five on Showtime and my DVR.

The heat and humidity were terrible last week. I forced myself to go out and run. All of my runs were horrible but I was glad that I did them. I wanted to see how well I could handle it. I had a couple of bad days were I couldn't run the entire time without walking. Other days I ran the entire time. This week will be different. It will be cooler and not hot and humid. I'm really looking forward to Tuesday's run. The high is supposed to be 66 degrees. Is this really July?

I ran the Hospice of Lenawee Run, Walk and Bike Tour 5K Sunday. It was a cool and windy morning. My times running were awful last week so I just wanted to maintain a nice pace. During the first mile, a guy that I knew ran up beside me. He got front of me and I stayed right behind him. Usually I never run with anyone, but it was nice to hang with someone during a race. Besides staying with the guy I knew, I came upon a woman and passed her. She is a runner who starts too fast and then has to stop and walk. This woman was ahead of me for most of the first mile of the race. I passed her and it became a game during the last two miles. I would pass her when she was walking and then she would pass me again. With a half mile to go, I passed her for the last time. She never caught back up to me. With less then 200 meters the guy and I were side-by-side. I said to the guy, "Let's go, " hoping he would sprint with me to the finish. He said that he couldn't because he didn't have anything left. I left him and sprinted to the finish. I was so excited. I have never out kicked a man at the finish. Usually they do that to me. My final time was 35:20. It was a decent time. I was seven in my age group with six to seven women behind me.
