Over the weekend, I ran a local 5K. The run went OK. It wasn't my fastest time and it wasn't my slowest time. With the 5K run and my Sunday run I crossed 600 miles run for the year. The day before the run, I decided to run 3 miles. Usually I don't run the day before a race to save my legs, but I needed to do it. I missed my run on Thursday because I visited my sister and her new baby at the hospital and that evening was my birthday dinner. Too many things in a day to schedule a run.
When I warmed up Saturday morning, I could tell my legs were tired. I figured that I would just go out there and run my best. The first mile I ran a bit fast for myself. At mile one mark, the time called out was 9:27. In the middle of mile two my legs were dying on me. It was in this mile that I got passed by male runner, who usually I stay with during a race and a speed walker! It was nothing new to me, I have been passed by one in a race before. I tried to hang with her, but I couldn't.
I didn't look at my watch because if a speed walker passed me, I though my time would be so horrible. When I was in sight of the finish line, I saw the clock and it surprised me. I finished the very sunny, humid race with a time of 34:26:80. I was seventh in my large age group, but not last. Even with tired legs, I beat my 5K time from July 26, which was 36:44:91.
