The "express" lane

While waiting in the express lane at Meijer today, a woman ahead of me bought a pool that was on sale. She also bought intertubes, other pool floaties and pool shock.

When the cashier finished ringing up her stuff, he said "That will be $301.00".
The woman said, "Three hundred dollars! I thought the pool was on sale." At this point she looks at me and says, "hand me the Meijer insert." I just looked at her and took a step back, she was looking at it before getting to the cash register and she set it down. I stepped out of the way so she could get it herself. She reached over me and got it. Then proceeded to turn the pages to find the pool ad.

"See!", the woman said. "It says $279.00." At this point the cashier and I looked at the screen above the cash register, the pool rung up at $279.00. He said, "the pool rung up at $279.00." The woman said, "I thought it rang up at $301.00."

Uh, don't you remember that you bought an extra $20 in pool stuff? Or were you so excited about the pool, you forgot?

By the way, thanks for holding up the line.
