My Dad's scholarship

I wrote on April 10th about my Dad. If he was still alive he would have turned 64. I graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1997. In between my freshman and sophomore year at Siena Heights University in Adrian, my dad, John died on August 15, 1998. It was very devastating to me and my family. All of our lives changed in that one instant.

When he died, we wanted to give something back to community and schools of Sand Creek. We asked that memorial contributions be made to Sand Creek Community Schools. My dad was on the Board of Education for 16 years, some of his final terms as Vice President and he was also on the High School Building Committee. I believe in 1999, the school called us and said that the money from Dad's memorial contributions were sitting in a bank account. The school wanted to know what we wanted done with the money, we suggested a scholarship in his name.

Today at work, I received a phone call from Ann, and she asked me to put together a couple of paragraphs about Dad and his life. His dedication to the community and schools and how his mother, sister and seven children all graduated from Sand Creek High School. The paragraphs have to be emailed to Ann next week for the school's upcoming Achievement Night.

I thought that it was nice that the school finally wanted us to be involved with the John Wayne Clark Scholarship (Fifth down on the list - John Clark Scholarship). I'm glad that some money goes to a student that will be attending college. I'm very proud that something that my Dad's name is attached to helps someone out. That is how Dad was, always helping anyone out who needed it.
